Those players who are not trained to cope with these can find these to cause them to play too conservatively, make simple mistakes (which they would never make in training), getting down on themselves... and the list goes on.

The good news is that we have an enormously powerful subconscious mind, the sleeping giant inside of us which houses all our football and training experience in our vast memory bank - and also controls our body's movement. It was used as the very first model used to create the very first personal computer - and it possesses all the answers we are seeking on the field.

In sport (and life), we do not always get what we deserve - we get what we expect.  Our level of positive expectancy, which powers our performances on the field, often becomes the deciding factor in many games.  When we expect success, the opportunities tend to flow to us - and vice versa.  

Visualization is one of the most powerful ways to program performance and overcome challenges, but unfortunately it is not always used as positively as it needs to be - because most of us don't realize that we are actually visualizing all day long - a kind of unconscious visualization if you like, that is constantly programming your future results.

While using the visualization technique is designed to increase performance, it can work both ways due to the non-stop visualization going on inside of us every minute of the day, which is constantly programming our performances. For instance, many athletes who experience any kind of recurring patterns or self sabotage in their performance (which are common mental programs I work with athletes at overcoming) are most often caused by the athlete unknowingly visualizing themselves to fail - purely because every single one of the 60,000 thoughts we have each waking day - including negative thoughts - are automatically converted into a picture, or an image, within the subconscious.
