The only problem is that this powerful mechanism can also quite easily work against us, if not programmed correctly.

When this happens, it can be reflected in the form of missed opportunities, lost confidence, poor form, unusual technical errors.... and I am sure you know the rest as well as I do.  

One of the toughest rules in life is that we do not always get what we deserve - we get what we expect.  

And so it very much depends upon our level of positive expectancy, deep within our mind, which decides our final results in many of the games.

This is purely because every single one of the 60,000 thoughts we have each waking day - including negative thoughts - are automatically converted into a picture, or an image, within the subconscious. This is a form of automatic visualization.

This process is much like running a constant movie though your mind all day long without realizing, which is programming your future results.

And ensuring the technique is being used positively and correctly is the only way to ensure the recurring patterns are overcome and replaced with stronger performances.

Having said that, many athletes also use it who have no problems at all - they simply want to improve their performances even further.

In fact, visualization is one of the most powerful methods for breaking out of slumps and countless other uses.

It's even used for accelerated healing for overcoming injuries, as the subconscious mind controls the body's powerful immune system which runs the healing functions of the body.

When it comes down to it, it's the mind that controls the body - but most athletes tend to see this the other way around until they experience a problem in performance and begin to understand how the mind / body connection works.
